Gems and Jewellery
Functions of the Division

The EP (Gems and Jewellery) Division deals with facilitating and promoting exports of gems and jewellery products along with appraisal of imports of commodities relating to gems & jewellery sector. EP(G&J) Division facilitates various export promotional measures for gems and jewellery sector including participation in trade promotion events along with export related interventions to address the issues/challenges faced by the industry. The Division also handles work related to preparation and review of export strategy/action plan, monitoring &analyzing export performance, taking corrective actions along with issues pertaining to domestic gems & jewellery industry.

This Division also deals with matters relating to Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and Indian Diamond Institute (IDI), Surat. Activities/ functions of GJEPC & IDI are available at their respective website: https://gjepc.org & https://www.diamondinstitute.net. These organisations are not funded by the Govt for their day to day running.

In addition, EP(G&J) Division is the nodal point for implementation of Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS).

Trade promotion activities

EPCs are entrusted with task of hosting/guiding exporters for Trade Promotion events. The Trade Promotion Events are supported by the Department through its Market Access Initiative and Market Development Assistance Schemes.

Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and Indian Diamond Industry (IDI) are not covered under the RTI Act provisions. For any information directly pertaining to the Council/Institute, applicant can approach GJEPC/IDI directly. EP(G&J) Division can provide information pertaining to aspects related to the functioning of the Division and related aspects.

GJEPC and IDI are not under the administrative control of the government and enjoy autonomy in administrative matters for creation of posts, service matters etc. However, the function of EPCs are as governed by para 2.55 of FTP 2015-20.
