Indian Institute of Plantations Management, Bengaluru

The Indian Institute of Plantation Management (IIPM) Bangaluru established at the initiative of Plantation Industry in 1993 to provide professional management education in the field of plantation sector. The leading units from plantation & Agri-business industry, four Commodity Boards, namely Coffee Board, Rubber Board, Tea Board & Spices Board, , and Plantation Associations, viz. Indian Tea Association (ITA) & United Planters’ Association of Southern India (UPASI) are its founding partners. IIPM is registered as a society at Bangalore under Karnataka Societies Registration Act, 1960.

The objective of the Institute is to provide education, research, training, development and consultancy services to the industry and other agencies engaged in economic and social development of the plantation & associated agro-business sector. The Institute conducts professional courses for young aspirants to enable them to find entry level managerial positions in plantation & associated agri-business industry and trains the managers and owner-managers of the industry who need update on the latest techniques and ideas in management. The Institute also acts as a resource centre for the government and the industry and conducts research on policy, strategic and operational issues relating to the sector.

IIPM is managed by a 15 member Governing Board consisting of representatives of the Commodity Boards of Government of India (Coffee, Tea, Rubber & Spices), representatives of Plantation Associations (representing North & Southern India), Owner planters, Practising Managers, the Central Government, Research Education & Training Institutions and other interests in the plantation sector. The Chairman of IIPM Society and 3 members are appointed by the Commerce Secretary, Government of India. The Director of the Institute is the Ex-officio member of the Board.

The Institute offers professional management courses viz. two year full time (AICTE-MHRD-GOI approved) Post Graduate Diploma in Management: Agri-Business & Plantation Management (PGDM-ABPM); Post Graduate Diploma in Management: Food Processing & Business Management (PGDM-FPBM); Post Graduate Diploma in Management: Agricultural Export & Business Management (PGDM-AE&BM); MBA affiliated to Bangalore University and Fellow (Ph.D.) Programme in Agribusiness & Plantation Management (FPM-ABPM) for prospective scholars interested in becoming skilled and innovative researchers and teachers in various aspects of plantations and associate agribusiness management.

Since its inception, over 1500 students have successfully completed the educational programme and have found employment in leading national and international plantation & associated agri-business organizations. The Institute has conducted more than 800 exclusive capacity building programmes for 23,000 stakeholders besides its educational and professional courses. Overall, 47,000 stakeholders have benefitted from the Institute’s programs.

The Institute has several Knowledge Resource Centres set up in partnership with the Government, Commodity Boards and the industry to cater to specific areas of knowledge viz. productivity, workforce governance, tea tasting and marketing, coffee entrepreneurship, cluster approach to business, multi-lingual digital language & communication etc. The Institute has educational membership of two international accreditation agencies viz. the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB, USA) and the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD, Brussels).
